What is DSIP?

DSIP, or Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide, is a naturally occurring neuropeptide first isolated from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits in an induced state of deep sleep. It is a small peptide, consisting of nine amino acids with the sequence: Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu.

This peptide is found in various parts of the brain, including the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, as well as in peripheral organs. It is known to be one of the few peptides that can effectively cross the blood-brain barrier.
