Mechanism of Action & Indications:

• For Female Infertility: In women, HCG is used as part of assisted reproductive technology (ART) programs. After a course of follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH), HCG is administered to trigger the final maturation of ovarian follicles and induce ovulation (the release of a mature egg from the ovary). It can also be used to support the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, which is crucial for the implantation and maintenance of an early pregnancy.

• For Male Hypogonadism: In men, HCG acts like LH to stimulate the Leydig cells in the testes to produce androgens (like testosterone). This is used to treat hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, a condition where the pituitary gland fails to produce sufficient hormones to stimulate the testes, resulting in low testosterone, infertility, and delayed puberty.

• For Prepubertal Cryptorchidism: In young boys (typically aged 4 to 9), HCG can be used to treat undescended testicles that are not due to an anatomical blockage. The hormone encourages the testes to descend into the scrotum.
