Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide (Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂) that functions as a selective agonist of the ghrelin/growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR). Its mechanism of action mimics that of ghrelin, binding to GHSRs in the anterior pituitary gland to potently stimulate the body’s own production and release of growth hormone (GH).

A key characteristic of Ipamorelin is its high selectivity and safety profile. Unlike other growth hormone-releasing peptides (GHRPs), Ipamorelin does not cause a significant release of or increase in other hormones such as prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), or adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). This specificity prevents the elevation of cortisol levels, making it a “cleaner” secretagogue.
