PT-141, also known as Bremelanotide, is a cyclic heptapeptide and a potent agonist of the melanocortin receptors, primarily MC3R and MC4R, located within the central nervous system. Unlike other compounds that work on the vascular system, PT-141 is designed to directly modulate pathways in the brain associated with sexual function.

Originally developed from Melanotan II, PT-141 was noted for its ability to induce sexual arousal as a side effect. This led to its specific development for treating sexual dysfunction in both men (erectile dysfunction) and women (hypoactive sexual desire disorder, or HSDD). Bremelanotide is FDA-approved under the name Vyleesi for the treatment of HSDD in premenopausal women.
